How to Merge PDF Files
Join documents end to end in the order you choose. What survives the join, and what does not.

The short answer
Drop the files in, drag them into the order you want, download one PDF. That is the whole operation, and here it happens in your browser, so contracts and statements do not go to anybody’s server. Three things are worth knowing first: the order comes from you and not from the file names, mixed page sizes stay mixed, and the result weighs about what the parts weighed together.
What a merge does to your documents

Read off what this tool does rather than described in general. Another merger may behave differently, and the outline is the one people notice missing.
The order is the only real decision
Everything else about a merge is mechanical. Getting the order wrong is the one mistake that costs you the download and a second attempt, and it is easy to make, because file names sort in ways nobody intends. In an alphabetical list, part10 comes before part2. A scanner that names by timestamp gives you the right order only if you happened to scan in the right order.
So set the order explicitly and read the list back before pressing the button. Thirty seconds there is cheaper than a merged contract with the appendix in the middle of it.
Mixed page sizes stay mixed
Merging an A4 report with a Letter sized invoice gives you one PDF containing both sizes. There is nothing wrong with that file and on screen you may never notice. It shows up at the printer, where a mixed size document either gets scaled page by page or asks for a different tray.
If everything has to be one size, that has to happen before the merge, in whatever produced the pages. A merge deliberately resizes nothing, because resizing a page means rescaling everything on it, and that is not a decision to make silently on somebody’s document.
What quietly does not come along
The document outline, the clickable table of contents down the side of a PDF reader, belongs to the document rather than to any page. A merge builds a new document out of copied pages, so the outlines of the originals do not survive it. This is normal for simple mergers and it is worth knowing before you merge a book.
Form fields are the other thing to check. A page carrying interactive fields can be copied, and whether those fields still behave depends on machinery that also lives at the document level. If you are joining forms that people have to fill in, open the result and click through the fields before sending it on.
Why the file does not get smaller
A merge copies page content across without re-encoding it, which is exactly what keeps the text selectable and the images at their original resolution. The price is that the result weighs roughly what the inputs weighed together.
If the total is too large to email, that is a compression job rather than a merge job, and the thing that is actually heavy is almost always the scanned images inside rather than the document around them.
Doing it without uploading
