Compress Video
A smaller file at a quality you choose, without sending it to anybody first
…
- 1
Drop the video in
Up to 500 MB, in any format the browser can read. Nothing is uploaded.
- 2
Choose how small
High, balanced or smallest. Compression re-encodes every frame, so this is a real trade rather than a setting.
- 3
Convert and download
The progress figure is the real one, because the work is happening on your processor.
FAQ
- How much smaller will it get?
- It depends entirely on what the video already was. A phone recording at a high bitrate can lose most of its size without a visible change; something already compressed once has much less to give.
- Will it be watermarked?
- No. There is no watermark at any setting, and no account to upgrade. The compression happens on your machine, so there is nothing to charge for.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. It is read by the page and written back out there, and no request carries the file anywhere.
- Why does it take as long as the video?
- Because compressing means decoding every frame and encoding it again, and that runs on your own processor rather than on a rented server. There is no way to make a file smaller without looking at all of it.
- Does it change the resolution?
- No. The pixel size stays as it was and only the bitrate changes. That is usually what people want, because a video that has been shrunk on screen looks worse than one that has been compressed harder.
