- Is my video uploaded?
- No. It is opened in your browser and written back out there. No request carries the file, which you can confirm in the network panel while it runs.
- Does converting lose quality?
- Not when the codec already fits the target: the picture is copied packet for packet and nothing changes. When the codec has to change, the video is re-encoded and a little is lost, and the page tells you which case you are in before you press the button.
- Why is it sometimes instant and sometimes slow?
- That is the same distinction. Copying a track is close to file copy speed. Re-encoding runs every frame through your machine, so it takes about as long as the video is, sometimes longer.
- Which browsers can do this?
- Chrome and Edge, and recent versions of Safari and Firefox. The page checks before it offers you the drop zone and says plainly if yours cannot, rather than failing after you have chosen a file.
- Is there a size limit?
- Up to 500 MB. The work happens in memory on your own machine, so a very large file is limited by what your browser will hold rather than by a policy we set.
