TinyPNG does one thing and does it well, and so does this: shrink an image as far as it can go before you can see the difference. The gap is not in the job, it is in the ceilings. Their free page takes twenty images at a time, five megabytes each, and the paid tier exists to lift limits rather than to do anything different.

The reason the limits exist over there is that the compression happens on their machines, and machines cost money per image. Here it happens on yours, with the same class of encoder, so there is nothing to ration: no twenty image batch, no five megabyte ceiling, no monthly count, and no upload.

- Is it as good as TinyPNG?
- The encoders are the same class of thing, and on photographs the results sit close enough that the file size is a fairer comparison than the pixels. TinyPNG has tuned its PNG quantisation for years and it shows on flat graphics; the honest summary is that they are ahead on some PNGs and this is free with no ceilings.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. The encoder runs on this page. Load it, turn the network off, and it still compresses, which is a claim you can check in about ten seconds.
- What about the WordPress plugin and the API?
- Not here, and not planned. If you need compression wired into a build or a CMS, that is a service and they sell a good one.
- Can it convert as well as compress?
- Yes. Choose a different output format and it converts while it compresses, between JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF.
