ALTERNATIVE TO OTTER.AI

Otter.ai Alternative

the transcript, without the monthly fee

Otter.ai Pro is a meeting assistant. It joins the call, follows who is speaking, and keeps everything in a searchable workspace. None of that happens here. What happens here is the part most people were actually paying for: hand over a recording, get the words back.

What you stop paying

Otter.ai Pro, every month$16.99 / month
This page, every month$0

Every Otter plan caps your minutes. There is no cap here because there is no plan. A long recording is cut into pieces at the quiet moments first, so a three hour file never becomes one enormous upload, and the cuts land between words instead of through them.

How to switch

  1. 1

    Get your file out

Otter lets you download the recordings you uploaded. Anything that produced an MP3 or an M4A works the same way.

  2. 2

    Drop it in

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG. No length limit, no sign up, no card.

  3. 3

    Take the text

Plain text, text with times, or subtitle files. Then go and cancel.

FAQ

Is it as accurate as Otter?
On clear speech, close enough that the difference is punctuation. On a noisy room with four people talking over each other, a service built around meetings has spent years on exactly that problem and it shows.
Does it label who is speaking?
No. You get timestamps, not speaker names. If knowing who said it matters as much as what was said, Otter earns its fee and you should keep it.
Is my recording uploaded?
Yes. It goes to our servers, gets processed, and is dropped. It is not stored, not logged, and never used to train anything. We keep no copy: there is no database in this app to keep one in.
Where is the catch?
There is no account, so there is nothing to upsell you later. One transcript costs us a fraction of a cent, and building a way to charge for that would cost more in payment fees than it could ever collect.
